Men's Health Month

Men's Health Month

It’s June and Father’s Day is fast approaching. But did you know that June offers much more than just a day to celebrate fathers? June has been designated as Men’s Health Month and as stated by menshealthmonth.org “the purpose of Men’s Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.” This month allows us the opportunity to open dialogs on health, as it directly relates to men and boys.

In 1994 Congress passed a bill making June 11th through the 17th Men’s Health Week, strategically making the week leading to Father’s Day one in which awareness of preventable diseases in men and boys are highlighted. The idea behind the bill was to move away from the treatment of diseases to the prevention of them. By maintaining awareness that diseases like Cardiovascular, Mental, and Prostate Health, among others, are diseases that can be prevented we help decrease the chances of the need for treatment and maintain the health among the men and boys in our communities.

Florida Health Care Plans cares about the health of our members and recognizes the importance of awareness in, not just men’s health, but in all. Please visit our Health and Wellness page to find a list of upcoming workshops and seminars that can help you increase your knowledge about preventable diseases and increase your quality of life.

Don't forget to wear blue on June 15th. Wear BLUE was created by Men’s Health Network to raise awareness about the importance of male health and to encourage men to live longer and healthier lives
