Daytona Beach ophthalmologist, a former POW, was selected to give Monday’s keynote address at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.

The following is the text of the keynote speech given Monday at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C. by area resident Hal Kushner.

Kushner, an area ophthalmologist since 1977 and former U.S. Army flight surgeon, was a prisoner of war in Vietnam from 1967 to 1973.

Good afternoon, distinguished guests, and particularly you Gold Star parents in the front row. We are all so grateful to you for your sacrifice.

Thank you, Jim Knotts and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund for allowing me this singular honor. I am humbled and privileged to be able to speak on this sacred day at this sacred monument where we honor our fallen and particularly those from the Vietnam War.
