Enrollment Periods for Medicare Advantage/Part D
These enrollment periods apply only to Original Medicare, Medicare Advantage
plans and Medicare-approved prescription drug plans.
Annual Enrollment Period
October 15th to December 7th
The time each year when you can choose which kind of Medicare coverage
you want to enroll in effective January 1st of the following year.
Initial Enrollment Period (IEP)
The time during which a person who is newly eligible for Medicare may make
an initial enrollment request to enroll in Original Medicare, a Medicare
Advantage (MA) plan or a Medicare Prescription Drug plan.
For most people, the IEP is the 7-month period that begins 3 months before
you turn 65, includes the month you turn 65, and ends the three months
after the month you turn 65.
Special Enrollment Period (SEP)
There are a number of circumstances in which an individual is eligible
for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), such as:
- You have a change in residence
- You have Medicaid
- You are eligible for Extra Help with Medicare prescriptions
- You lose coverage through an employment-based group health plan.

Medicare Advantage Disenrollment Period (MAPD)
January 1st to February 14th
The time during when you can disenroll from a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan
and choose Original Medicare (and, if you wish enroll in a Medicare Prescription
Florida Health Care Plans is an HMO plan with a Medicare Contract. Enrollment
in Florida Health Care Plans depends on contract renewal. Medicare beneficiaries
may also enroll in Florida Health Care Plans through the CMS Medicare
